I'm fascinated by the immense beauty of the universe, its unfamiliar otherness, its sheer scale in terms of distances and time, and the huge potential it holds for new knowledge and exploration.
When we look beyond our own world we realise our utter insignifcance on the cosmic scale. I find this incredibly energising and inspiring - there is so much out there that is beyond our experience and understanding, yet little by little humankind is exploring beyond our home planet, and what we find is opening our minds, expanding our comprehension, and inspiring our imaginations. The possibilities are infinite! What could be more exciting?
This blog is a way of sharing my passion for astronomy with everyone who has an enquiring mind and is open to being inspired by the universe.
I live in a rural part of beautiful Mugla province in Turkey, where it's not so hard to get away from sky-polluting street lighting and to glory in the brightness of the Milky Way. My interest in astronomy started a few years ago when I signed up for a distance-learning course fairly randomly and I caught the bug. I love taking advantage of frequent clear skies to look at such wonders as Saturn's rings, the delicate banding on Jupiter or distant galaxies with my simple telescope.
